Hey Rita, that is Ueda in Nagano Prefecture in Japan. The picture was taken in autumn of 2009. The colours were truly wonderful and this picture really does not do justice to the real scene that I was lucky enough to experience.
Nihon Neko, you are right. Like a kimono. Nature was wearing an early Showa kimono with some bright colour (leaves) and some dark colours (tree trunks). I have very fond memories of that area and miss it very much.

Leaves color change from green to red or yellow.
In Japan ko-yo season now.
