Tilt and Turn

Tilting tea pots solve the big problem of over steeping the tea, specially in restaurants and cafes. Through a clever mechanism one can brew that perfect cup(s) of tea.

There is a shelf inside the pot into which tea leaves are put and steeped in hot water. Once the brew is ready tilt the pot to let the brewed tea drain to the bottom and finally stand the pot upright so that the brewed tea is not in contact with the tea leaves. Then pour and drink that perfect brew. This picture was taken in Restaurant Fischereihaven in Hamburg, Germany.

  2. Yes Nihon Neko, the tea pot cap does looks like an old style hat. I thought the concept was cool and really effective. I had not encountered this type of tea pot before so I was surprised and did not know how to use it at first. Honto ni bikkuri shita!

  5. Liyn-an,
I am not sure if this type of tea pot is useful only for black/red tea or for others as well. I always have problems in restaurants and cafe with tea. Often the tea in the tea pot is more than what can be poured into cups. In the meantime tea in the pot continues to steep turning it bitter. This tea pot is quite bulky but it does solve this problem.

    Yu-ka,
The tea pot is not so elegant but it makes nice tea!

  7. Therefore, we are using the brewing teapot and the service teapot in our tearoom.

  8. Liyn-an maybe we could take this tea pot's pragmatic construct and turn it into a more elegant solution. This requires a fusion of Japanese engineering brains and a refined sense of beauty much like making a katana - 刀.

  12. The trick is the inside. I didn't think to take a picture inside the tea pot. I will try to get one sample and then we can go to Thimi and and replicate this design.
